Positivo Casa Inteligente: replacing Tuya's white-label app with Positivo's own
Positivo Tecnologia's smart-home app, built in Flutter with native Swift and Kotlin/Java modules, to pair, control and automate bulbs, LED strips, plugs, cameras, locks and other devices over Wi-Fi and Bluetooth on top of the Tuya SDK.

Context and problem
The Positivo Casa Inteligente range covers dozens of connected devices — lighting, cameras, locks, switches, plugs, a universal remote, robot vacuums — and all of them rely on an app for pairing, control and automation.
Until then, Positivo used a native white-label app from Tuya, the IoT platform behind the devices. That app's limitations and problems led the company to build its own, with the experience and roadmap under its control.
The Snowman Labs team joined right at that migration: building the new app on the Tuya SDK without breaking compatibility with the devices already on the market.
My responsibility
- Mobile developer at Snowman Labs, in an agile Scrum squad with fortnightly releases.
- Took part in planning and in the architecture decisions for the new app.
- Owned the weather automations module — scenes triggered by weather conditions at the home's location, such as temperature, humidity, rain and sunrise or sunset — and was part of the team that built automations for bulbs, LED strips, plugs and other devices.
- Worked in Flutter (cross-platform) and in the native layer: Swift on iOS and Java/Kotlin on Android.
- The project was run by three teams together: Positivo's own team, Snowman Labs and Flutterando.
Solution
Cross-platform Flutter app, with a native layer in Swift and Java/Kotlin to talk to the Tuya SDK and to devices over Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
Flows to add new devices by category (lighting, security and video, comfort and automation, connectivity), a “My home” screen with scenes, groups and devices, individual control (on/off, colour and brightness) and routines such as “Lights off”, “Good night” and “Turn on the coffee-maker plug”.
Automations and scenes that combine several devices, including weather-based triggers, with real-time monitoring and control from anywhere.
Architecture decisions
- Positivo's own app instead of Tuya's white-label one: the company took control of the experience, the design and the pace of the product.
- Flutter for a single Android and iOS codebase, with native modules (Swift, Java/Kotlin) where the Tuya SDK and the hardware needed platform access.
- MobX for state management, keeping the UI in step with the state of devices and automations.
